New, Now and Next in Technology
Dealerscope: How do you choose which new technologies to sell? What’s the process?
Yacoubian: It’s one thing when you’re recommending technology as a solution; it’s another when you’re just demonstrating the possibilities. In that case, we’ll pretty much show anything that’s cool. If we’re trying to integrate these products as solutions, then we go through a much greater due diligence process to make sure they work according to how people will want to use them.
A great example is Sonos, where we’re integrating that solution into people’s homes. It’s such a robust solution that we know it will make people happy. There are other solutions of this type that work but they may be a little quirkier. We don’t want them to live in one of our custom installations, because it can be a source of aggravation. Sonos was an example of where we went out of our own comfort zone because we knew it was a cool technology that worked in a way I thought people would interact with. The interface is very familiar-feeling.
