HP Names Whitman CEO
HP Thursday officially announced a CEO change that had been rumored for 24 hours, naming former Ebay CEO Meg Whitman its new chief executive. Whitman replaces the departing Léo Apotheker, who had been in place for less than a year.
The company also named Ray Lane its new executive chairman of the board; he had been non-executive chairman.
“We are fortunate to have someone of Meg Whitman’s caliber and experience step up to lead HP,” Lane said in a statement. “We are at a critical moment and we need renewed leadership to successfully implement our strategy and take advantage of the market opportunities ahead. Meg is a technology visionary with a proven track record of execution. She is a strong communicator who is customer focused with deep leadership capabilities."
