HP Betting on Touchscreen PCs For Commercial Market
HP is responding to slow sales of its TouchSmart PCs by selling similar touchscreen devices to the commercial market. That's according to a report last week in the Wall Street Journal.
The company has struck deals to put the touchscreen panels in places as diverse as airports (Chicago's O'Hare) and sports arenas (Detroit's Palace at Auburn Hills.) Sales of desktop PCs have been hurt in the last year by the slowing economy, as customers flock to smaller, cheaper models.
HP sold 400,000 of the TouchSmart PCs last year, according to IDC statistics cited by the Journal.
