HP To Offer More Video on Demand
HP last week announced that it has agreed with 30 independent film companies and other content providers to license their content for on-demand video creation, as well as pre-packaged sales. The deal is through HP’s Video Merchant Services subsidiary.
Under the terms of the deal, retailers will be given access to content from the providers, and make it available either in pre-packaged form, or by manufacturing it on demand. Some of the content will also be available as video downloads. The companies providing content include First Look Studios, Arts Alliance America, and Venevision International Films.
The object of the deal, HP says, is to make certain content available that may not be mass-produced, specifically naming obscure foreign films, older TV shows, and various religious and sports programming. HP made a version of the service available to Wal*Mart earlier this year.
