HTSA Backs Blu-ray
In a possibly significant development for the hi-def disc format war as it relates to the home theater sector, that group’s leading professional association has announced its support for Sony’s Blu-ray format. The Home Theater Specialists of America (HTSA) said Monday it is backing Blu-ray as its “exclusive, next generation high-definition format of choice.”
HTSA made its decision after finding that 92 percent of members’ high-definition player sales were in Blu-ray- while most of the rest were for dual-format players. The group, in a statement, also praised Blu-ray for its “greater device capacity, better resolution, larger manufacturer adoption and content availability.”
HTSA consists of 62 retailers, 97 store fronts, and over 800 installers, all combining for $500 million in buying power.
