Huawei May Beat Samsung On Foldable Phone Race
As a long-standing battle between Apple and Samsung comes to a close, it seems that Huawei is ready to be the truest chameleon on the market by launching a foldable phone before Samsung can get theirs off the ground.
The report comes from the otherwise reliable Chinese publication Nikkei stating that Huawei is making some noise ahead of Samsung's big reveal. The news is backed up by flexible OLED display manufacturer BOE (Beijing Oriental Electronics) Technology Group, according to Nikkei's sources, who also claim that the first wave will be small - around 30,000 units - but timely.
"Huawei's planned volume could be limited to some 20,000 to 30,000 units, or even less, for a small group of first-wave adopters," one person familiar with Huawei's plan said. "The effort is mainly to demonstrate its technology capability and to attract the industry's attention and media coverage."
