Huawei, Qualcomm First Confirmed Keynotes for IFA 2019
During the IFA Global Press Conference in Punta Umbria, Spain, this week, show organizers officially announced the first two keynote addresses planned for this September’s IFA 2019 show. And they both should drive a ton of conversations, questions, and engagement leading up to, during, and after they go off.
Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei, and Cristiano Amon, President of Qualcomm, will both grace the IFA 2019 Keynote Stage with their presence. And with both firms being in the news of late and involved with the telecommunications industry, we expect to hear and see a lot of news related to the launch of 5G. Yu will deliver the Opening Keynote address on the morning of Friday, September 6, and Amon will take the IFA Keynote Stage later that afternoon.
For Yu in particular, the IFA Keynote Stage provides an opportunity for the Huawei CEO to get in front of the global media and discuss the latest smartphone and chipset innovations the brand is working on. But just as interesting will be to see if and how he addresses the other news that’s been surrounding the company of late—including several nations, the U.S. among them, essentially calling them a political threat. Yu is known to deliver fiery and entertaining keynote addresses, and we expect nothing less at IFA 2019.
“Huawei is committed to turning smart devices into intelligent devices by building end-to-end capabilities that support coordinated development of devices,” Yu said in a statement released by IFA. “The ultimate goal is to provide a full scenario intelligent solution and offer a better user experience to consumers in the future intelligent world.”
IFA Executive Director Jens Heithecker added, “AI is going to be the glue that holds our connected lives together. We look forward to welcoming Mr. Yu back at the IFA Keynote Stage to show us the ultimate power of mobile AI.”
For Amon, he’ll have the opportunity to address all of the work his company has been doing with regard to the commercialization of 5G, which gets underway this year, and the impact that it will have on the global economy. The Qualcomm keynote will come just a few short months after the company buried the hatchet with Apple, settling all global disputes between the two major tech companies.
“I am excited and looking forward to my IFA Keynote in Berlin,” Amon said in a statement. “5G commercialization marks the arrival of a new age of invention that will forever transform the devices we depend on every day and enrich our lives in 2019 and beyond. I believe this creates a truly global moment for consumers and tech enthusiasts around the world.”
