IBM issued two lawsuits Monday against Amazon.com, claiming the site infringed upon patents governing its operation. The five patents in question cover features such as recommendations, advertising and data storage. One patent, filed in the 80’s during a collaboration between IBM and Sears, Roebuck & Co. called Prodigy holds the prescient moniker “Ordering Items Using an Electronic Catalog.” IBM claims to have attempted to negotiate licensing with Amazon previously to no avail. Damages sought have not been specified.
