iDevices Launches Alexa-Powered Light Switch
Connecticut-based smart home company, iDevices, has just created a smart light switch with built-in Alexa capabilities, complete with tiny microphones. The Instinct is a wireless switch compatible with existing internet of things (IoT) devices. Users can issue voice commands to the Instinct for total control over the entire iDevices line of smart lighting, power and HVAC systems, as well as other Alexa-enabled smart devices. They can also enjoy their favorite music and podcasts with premium SOEN Audio technology for high-performance sound in a compact design. With far-field microphones, Instinct will only responds when it’s the closest Alexa device in the area.
“By combining Amazon Alexa with a smart light switch, counter space is no longer a barrier to whole-home voice control,” commented Chris Allen, president of iDevices. “Instinct is the epitome of sophisticated intelligence, functionality and design — a critical breakthrough in the smart home evolution. It represents the latest innovation from iDevices, and a clear shift in how we’ll interact with our homes going forward.”
A circular LED light built into the Instinct will change colors to let you know when Alexa is listening -- just like an Echo smart speaker. Additionally, users can control Instinct through the Amazon Alexa app where they can create Routines and access more than 90,000 Alexa skills. Since Instinct has built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, there is no need for a smart hub. Instinct can become part of your Alexa ecosystem or it can be used as a standalone smart device. iDevices provides all over-the-air updates, ensuring the Instinct is always running on the latest software.
