IFA 2012 Kicks Off in Berlin
IFA 2012 kicked off in Berlin, just a week after the city officially declared its commitment and support for the technology industry. It is fitting that IFA is thriving in one of the most financially successful cities in the world today. Booming business is evident all around in the construction at seemingly every corner.
IFA is the world's largest show of consumer electronics and home appliances and it continues to grow. At the IFA opening press conference, Messe Berlin COO Dr. Christian Göke noted that IFA has expanded each year to the point of capacity, and new halls will be built by 2014 for an even larger show. IFA has been able to focus on trade visitors, with 130,000 in attendance last year, making it a valuable show for the industry.
Even in the event of an unexpected crisis, CE will remain strong, explained Dr. Göke. In times of crisis, few consumers would cut spending in healthcare (2.1%), home appliances (2.4%), and CE (7.9%). In comparison, 12.7% of consumers were prepared to cut back in furniture, with numbers rising from there for culture, vacation, and restaurants.
