IFA 2020 to Unveil Innovative New Concept Designed Around COVID-19 Restrictions
IFA 2020, Berlin is set to commence as scheduled for September, but organizers are planning an innovative new concept for the event, following the recent decision by the Berlin government to ban all events with more than 5,000 participants until October 24, 2020. As a result, IFA Berlin, the world's most significant trade show for consumer electronics and home appliances, needed to make some adjustments to their usual event proceedings.
The organizers of IFA, gfu and Messe Berlin, have been anticipating this development and for the last several weeks have been discussing a range of alternative concepts.
The plan is for IFA 2020 to deliver on its core functions for the consumer electronics industry – as a global showcase for technology innovation and an important meeting place for brands, manufacturers, retailers and media. Further details of this new concept, jointly developed by gfu and Messe Berlin, will be unveiled in the very near future.
Hans-Joachim Kamp, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of gfu Consumer & Home Electronics, explains, "We expected this development given the constantly evolving pandemic and appreciate that we now have a clear regulatory framework that enables us, our partner Messe Berlin, and our exhibitors to make detailed plans for IFA 2020.”
