IFA Executive Director Jens Heithecker Previews this Year's Show
Voice control, Smart Devices, Artificial Intelligence and 8K Television are among the Big Trends for IFA 2018. Technology megatrends are driving a new wave of innovation in consumer electronics and home appliances. IFA has paved the way for innumerable innovations in living rooms, offices and kitchens of this world. At the moment, we are experiencing a particularly exciting phase in technological development: Smart and connected devices for the home, powerful AI applications that are deeply integrated in consumer electronics and wellness products, and TVs with ever better screen quality are among the big trendsetters that will dominate IFA 2018, the world’s most important trade show for consumer electronics and home appliances.
This year as always, we can expect some outstanding keynotes. Can you tell us a little more about these?
Heithecker: Media and trade visitors from around the world will have the opportunity to receive exclusive, personal insights from some of the leading global players. This year's keynotes include:
- LG – ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE: LG Electronics (LG) Chief Executive Of cer Jo Seong- Jin and Chief Technology Officer Dr. I.P. Park will deliver a joint opening keynote at IFA 2018 for the very first time and outline their vision for LG’s ThinQ strategy for Artificial Intelligence. The first IFA keynote for both executives, titled "Think Wise, Be Free: Living Freer with AI."
- HUAWEI – MOBILE AI: With the mobile industry experiencing a renaissance of on-device capabilities, particularly in AI, Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei Consumer Business Group, will share how more advanced mobile technology enhances the mobile user experience in gaming, AI and AR workloads.
- MICROSOFT – THE INTELLIGENT CLOUD: In his keynote, New Computing Possibilities — AI, IoT, and Gaming from The Intelligent Edge to the Intelligent Cloud and Back Microsoft VP Nick Parker will provide insights into opportunities, possibilities and business models that lie in the computing technologies of tomorrow. Connected devices – including PCs, appliances, drones and sensors — become smarter and augment human ingenuity and are powered by the intelligent cloud.
- AMAZON – VOICE-FIRST: From offering instant access to information and entertainment to controlling the devices around us, voice-first experiences provide the most natural and convenient way to interact with the technology in our lives.
This year, you are adding Shift Automotive. How did the idea come about for this, and what can we expect to see?
As a leading business event, IFA 2018 combines proven formats with new accents. We will be celebrating the premiere of “Shift AUTOMOTIVE” in 2018, a series of conferences focusing on the future of mobility. How will automotive technologies change our way of thinking, living and driving? IFA will address these issues in the future together with another global leader in organizing events, the Geneva International Motor Show. The first joint convention will take place in Berlin on 4 & 5 September.
Amongst several top-notch speakers we will have two keynote speakers: John Schoenbeck of BMW Designworks and Michael Mauser of Harman. The host of the event will be LJ Rich, who is one of the presenters of BBC Click – the technology show on BBC World TV.
