IKEA, Sonos Team Up to Tackle Home Audio Experiences
So much of the audio experience is predicated around the design of a room. So much of the design of a room is predicated around the furniture in that room. That’s what makes the partnership between Speaker manufacturer Sonos and furniture retailer IKEA such a unique and perfect one. Last week, the two announced that they will work together to help consumers “create atmosphere at home with great design, music, and sound.”
“When we asked people what sound they associate with their homes many people mentioned that it is music that makes a home.” Björn Block, Business Leader, IKEA Home smart at IKEA of Sweden, said in a statement.
The exact details as to what the partnership will involve were scant. IKEA said the collaboration is part of its IKEA Home Smart program and will launch in store in 2019. It’s not difficult to imagine that this means the prevalence of Sonos products in IKEA stores will increase, and Sonos speakers could become available at IKEA stores and on the website (they currently don’t list any Sonos product online).
At the very least, the two will help consumers understand how room design plays into the audio experience through in-store demos.
“Together with Sonos we want to democratize music and sound in the home, and we want to create products designed for how people listen together at home,” Block said. “By teaming up with Sonos we want to combine IKEA home furnishing knowledge with Sonos’ expertise within great home sound.” Björn said.
Sonos CEO Patrick Spence added that the partnership will show consumers the importance of music in the home and how it should play a role in design.
“We believe that sound should be a considered element of home design,” he said. “Together we will work with IKEA to create products and experiences that make people’s home look and sound more amazing.”
