“In-Car Tech” Takes Aim
Congratulations! We made it this far…the strong have survived. But now is not the time to merely survive; it is time to make some money again. I am not that old, but I go back nearly 20 years in the car electronics world, but back then it was the car stereo world.
In those days, the appeal of installing two Nakamichi 6 x 9's in the rear of a Mustang on some MDF appealed to every 16-year-old in my high school. Unfortunately, in a recent study of 16-year-olds the appeal of a new iPhone outweighs the reward of a new Mustang. Blasphemy in our nostalgic eyes! Brandon Walsh on 90210 not coveting Mondale, his first Mustang, but rather a handheld device?
Fast forward twenty years and that is what Dixon Mills on the current 90210 craves. To steal something from the younger generation texting, WTF? But have no fear - the answer now as it was back then is Technology. New 'mobile' technologies (yes, they even stole the word for our entire industry), got us into this 'commoditization' and 'waning interest in audio' mess and it will be new technologies that get us out of it. How so? The youngsters need our help.
