In CES Swan Song, Microsoft Touts Windows 8
In Microsoft's final CES keynote Monday, CEO Steve Ballmer- along with special guest Ryan Seacrest- spent the majority of the time talking up both the fledgling Windows Phone platform and the upcoming Windows 8.
The keynote, which lasted around 80 minutes, mostly took the form of an on-stage interview of Ballmer by Seacrest, the "American Idol" and E! Network host. Ballmer focused most of the presentation on the company's Metro User Interface, the tile-based look that is both the central format of Windows Phone and will form the basis of Windows 8.
The evening was light on new announcements; the only real news was Ballmer's mention in passing of the arrival of Kinect on Windows PCs on Feb. 1, as well as the announcement of a content deal with News Corp. for Xbox Live.
