Xbox 360 to Add Instant Messenging
Starting next month, users of Xbox 360 will be able to trade instant messages. IM functionality, through the Windows Live Messenger, will be available on the system starting the first week in May, Microsoft announced Monday. With the new service, Xbox users will be able to chat with friends on both PCs and cell phones, as well as other Xboxes.
“Bringing the largest IM community in the world, Windows Live Messenger, to Xbox 360 makes sense, as Xbox LIVE has really become the largest social network on television,” product unit manager Jerry Johnson said in a company statement.
The new functionality is part of a free spring update that will also include a new Achievement notification pop-up, enhanced family settings, and new progressive download controls.
