In Reversal, Sony to Cut PS3 Price
Reversing a stand taken by its CEO only a day earlier, Sony announced Tuesday afternoon at the E3 show in Los Angeles that it would indeed cut the price of the 80GB PlayStation 3 console to $399, the same price under which the console’s 40GB version is currently sold.
The change will go into effect in September, Reuters reported.
The move comes only days after rival Microsoft announced a similar price cut for the Xbox 360, and also announced the pending release of a larger-capacity version. On Monday, Sony CEO Howard Stringer had told Bloomberg News that no such cut was in the offing for the PS3.
