The Sad State of TV Sales
Retailers are selling home theater big screens like there’s no tomorrow. But, in most cases, they’re being sold as stand-alone products, not part of a full home theater solution. Few go out with an audio system, much less a high-end audio system.
This is a sad state of affairs, especially when you consider the audio technology that is available today: lossless high-definition surround sound, and full 5.1 DVD Audio SACD-quality through HDMI. Millions of people are buying TVs, but most sales people fail to push the whole-home theater experience.
Most consumers think the TV is the home theater. But consumers don’t know that a major component of the home theater experience is great audio. The “screen” is only half the purchase. The virtues of audio are not immediately apparent to most consumers, while video is immediately obvious. Customers underestimate the power and dynamics that are needed to recreate a full, lifelike home theater or music experience. Salespeople have to remember that the picture always looks better when it sounds better.
