Behind the Mobile Electronics Certified Professional Cert
MECP Master Installation Technician – the top-tier credential for installation technicians who’ve already achieved (and hold) a current MECP Advanced credential as one of the prerequisites. This level has a minimum requirement of three years professional work experience and quite often the technician has considerably more. There are just over 220 Master technicians in existence with current credentials. The Master exam has undergone multiple revisions since the release of its companion study guide in 2007 and another major revision is in the pipeline. This is a four-year certification.
As some readers may already know, MECP delivers computer-based, supervised exams in Prometric test centers (over 1,000 locations throughout North America) or through several MECP-appointed proctors, and has been doing so since 2005 when the program completely suspended paper testing.
“MECP was somewhat of a pioneer in this area of supervised, computer-based exam delivery. Another well-regarded automotive credential, ASE, recently suspended their paper testing and now also delivers their exams through Prometric test sites as MECP has for the last seven years,” comments Jack Cutts, senior manager of member programs at CEA.
