Industry Veteran Gary McCormick Dies
Gary McCormick, A/V specialty retailing pioneer and founder of Indianapolis-based Ovation Audio/Video, died June 15. He was 63 years old.
McCormick, a graduate with distinction from the University of Michigan School of Business Administration, moved to Indiana in the mid-’70s, where he started Hi-Fi Buys. He grew the business into a multi-store operation, sold it, and in 1986, started Ovation, which he also built into a successful hybrid A/V specialty store and custom retailer, owning and operating it until 2006. Both businesses were named Top Ten Retailers more than 20 times in 30 years, and McCormick was named Small Business Person of the Year for the State of Indiana in 1979.
He is survived by his wife, Jaye. Memorial Masses are scheduled to be held in Detroit on June 25 and in Indianapolis on June 28.
