Ingram Micro’s CTS Vendor Show: An Interactive Expo
Ingram Micro Consumer Technology Solutions (CTS) held its annual Vendor Expo April 18-20 in Scottsdale, Ariz. It was the 10th anniversary of the series of vendor shows that began under DBL Distributing ownership in 2007, said Craig Birmingham, vice president and general manager for the distributor. This year, he said, the Vendor Expo attracted around 90 vendor companies and representatives from around 170 resellers and dealers – a 25 percent increase over 2015. “We got some great feedback as to the value of the show for both our customers and our vendors,” he said. At this Expo, the distributor’s emphasis on emerging and profitable product categories continued, and there were a few modifications that made the meeting even more pro-active and “experiential” than in years past.
Manufacturer pro-activity took the form of the offering of extended training tracks by vendors like Apple and Samsung, and also through Consumer Technology Solutions’ “QuickFire” tracks, where a number of vendors were given a 10-to-15-minute platform in front of all resellers to synopsize their products and programs. “Quick Fire was, ‘Here’s what we have; we’ll talk on the show floor,’” explained Birmingham. The show floor itself, meanwhile, was filled with “lots of connected, interactive tabletops and live demos,” he said.
