InMotion Entertainment Group Celebrates 20 Years in Business
Looking at their present-day operations, it’s crazy to think that just 20 years ago this February, InMotion Entertainment Group was launched as an in-airport movie rental kiosk. But that’s exactly the case for the company, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this month as the largest U.S. airport-based electronics retailer. InMotion sits at number-56 on Dealerscope’s Top 101 CE Retailers list, and has been a staple on that list for the past seven years.
The first two InMotion stores, which opened as InMotion Pictures in Portland (2/11/1999) and Minneapolis (2/17/1999), began solely as movie rental locations. Shoppers were able to rent DVD players and DVDs. As the company noticed a shift in on-the-go consumers needs, InMotion evolved its offerings to include music, movies, and electronics retailing.
“We have achieved this milestone through the dedication and willingness to go the extra mile from every employee,” InMotion Entertainment Group President and CEO Jeremy Smith said in a statement. “We have additional store growth planned, are actively pursuing international locations, and are exploring additional travel retail opportunities.”
