Sony Electronic Book Player, a Data Discman
Sony introduced an electronic book player Data Discman, DD-S1000, as the company's first color LCD display model. Priced at 88,000 yen, the Data Discman comes with an 8-cm CD-ROM that contains Japan encyclopedia information. Approximately 230 CD-ROM titles are available in Japan for the unit. The display size is 120 x 60 mm (400 x 200 dots) and shows 10 lines (with 25 Japanese characters per line). The DD-S1000 has USB interface to PC and can serve as an ancillary CD-ROM encyclopedia/dictionary to the PC, complete with a search window on the PC monitor screen. A built-in rechargeable battery works about 7.5 hours, 5 hours when playing an 8-cm music CD.
