Internet Capable Device Marketing Seen Growing Fivefold
International sales of consumer-electronics devices capable of supporting Internet video will multiple fivefold between this year and 2013, growing to 376.5 million from a current level of 80.5 million. That's according to numbers released last week by research firm iSuppli Corp.
That category, iSuppli said, refers to set-top boxes, Blu-ray players, video game consoles and "dedicated video platforms," as well as televisions.
“The expansion of broadband Internet access from home computers to other devices including STBs has opened up a world of new possibilities for supporting Internet video via streaming and downloads,” iSuppli senior analyst for CE Sheri Greenspan said as part of the announcement. “More importantly, the public is demanding this type of content on a wider variety of platforms."
