Iomega Adds Surveillance to ix2 Network Storage
Iomega is beginning to ship its StorCenter ix2 Network Storage, a two-bay desktop device designed for content sharing, cloud computing and video surveillance.
With a price of $199 for the diskless model, the ix2 can scale up to 6TB. That configuration is priced at $699, while separate drives sell for about $100 per terabyte.
Although the ix2 performs many of the features expected in a connected storage device - RAID 1 protection; automatic setup of Iomega's QuikProtected backup software for PCs and Macs; Personal Cloud for sharing, protecting and access data from anywhere; and Native Time Machine support, to name a few - Iomega is pushing the unit's video surveillance capabilities as its differentiator.
