Lifestyle CE company ION Audio started the new year with a display of a wide selection of tabletop and portable radios, along with several new themed turntables that build on legacy car dashboard designs and target the nostalgia sensibilities of vinyl-lovers, at CES 2019.
Among the turntables shown were the Bluetooth-enabled Ford Mustang GT ($129; Spring availability), a combination three-speed belt-drive turntable with a radio whose digital tuner display is designed to look like a speedometer; it is equipped with a USB input can be used to record favorite albums onto USB flash drives for safekeeping. Its Aux input allows the connection of other devices to the system.
To work with Amazon’s Echo Dot or Google’s Home Mini, ION has added the Smart Boom rechargeable indoor/outdoor speaker with a docking cradle that holds either the Dot or the Mini; it houses a 50-watt amplifier.
The Bluetooth-enabled Charge Time stereo alarm clock, outfitted with two 10-watt speakers, can play wirelessly streamed music, and has a unique, light-wood look that carries through to the time display area. It offers wireless Qi phone charging when a compatible iPhone or Android phone is rested across the top, and a built-in mic permits hands-free call answering.
