Apple Sells 4 Million iPhone 4S Units in First Weekend
Disappointment by some Apple fans at the introduction of the iPhone 4S earlier this month gave way to record-breaking sales when the device was released Friday.
Apple said Monday that it sold over 4 million units of the new smartphone in its first three days on the market. Apple also said the install base for the new iOS5 has reached 25 million customers since it was released last week.
"iPhone 4S is off to a great start with more than four million sold in its first weekend—the most ever for a phone and more than double the iPhone 4 launch during its first three days,” Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing, said as part of the announcement. "iPhone 4S is a hit with customers around the world, and together with iOS 5 and iCloud, is the best iPhone ever."
