Among the many remote mobile phone management features offered by UK company Synchronica’s Remote XT service is the “Syncrhonica Scream Feature,” which can be activated if the phone is stolen and emits, according to the company, “an annoying and embarrassing high pitched wail.” This deterrent will not cease until the phone’s battery is removed, rendering it useless.
Synchronica CEO Carsten Brinkschulte elaborates, “According to industry sources, it takes on average only 30 seconds for someone to notice that their phone is missing, compared to an hour for a wallet/purse. So by using this service, the victim can potentially hear their phone scream in a crowd of people and take action.”
Other protection features include remote backup of all data stored on the phone as well as remote wiping of memory and locking of the device’s functions. Since data is backed up remotely, users can retrieve it if they ever have to buy a new phone. In addition, replacement of the handset’s SIM card will fail to either stop the screaming or get the phone to work.
