Samsung Retakes LCD Lead
Samsung has overtaken Vizio to reclaim the lead in LCD market share in the U.S., according to iSuppli Corp. figures released Monday. Samsung now holds 16.8 percent of the LCD market with 1.3 million units shipped in the third quarter, compared with 15.7 percent for Vizio.
LG was third with 8.1 percent, while Toshiba and Sony were virtually tied with 7.8 percent. Samsung and Vizio have been trading the market share lead for most of the last two years, although Vizio had held the #1 spot since the fourth quarter of 2008.
iSuppli also found that adoption of LED sets is slowly rising, with the technology now comprising 3.7 percent of the total LCD market, compared with 2.1 percent last quarter.
