The HDTV sector continues to grow by leaps and bounds- by 20 percent annually, with shipments expected to reach over $240 million worldwide in 2012. That's according to a forecast released this week by research firm iSuppli.
That represents a huge jump from the 2007 figure of 97.1 million units. Meanwhile, non-HDTV unit shipments are forecasted to drop from 114.8 million units in 2007 to 23.1 million in 2012.
“The technology is everywhere these days—on broadcast television, on cable, on satellite, and on the Internet,” iSuppli's senior analyst for consumer electronics, Sheri Greenspan, said as part of the announcement. “You can’t escape hearing about something being broadcast in HD or getting the most out of your HD receiver or the most HD channels available.”
