Based largely on the continuing strength of Apple's iPad, iSuppli has raised its forecast of global tablet sales for this year to 60 million units, the research firm announced Wednesday.
According to the IHS iSuppli Display Materials & Systems Service, global sales of tablets will rise 245.9 percent from 2010's figure of 17.4 million. The forecast was revised slightly from the previous 58.9 million. Of the 60 million, 44.2 million will be iPads, iSuppli said.
“All the momentum in the media tablet market is with Apple right now,” Rhoda Alexander, senior manager, tablet and monitor research for IHS, said as part of the announcement.
