PS3 Sales Drive Gaming Numbers
Due largely to strength in sales of the PlayStation 3, global gaming console sales are expected to rise in the fourth quarter after dropping every quarter this year, according to iSuppli Corp. data released this week, in another sign that Sony's PS3 status has bourne fruit.
iSuppli predicted fourth quarter global console sales of 24.6 million units, a rise of more than a million from the same period last year.
“Sony’s PlayStation 3 sales reached an all-time high during the week of Black Friday as consumers were attracted by its new low pricing and alluring bundle deals,” Pamela Tufegdzic, an iSuppli CE analyst, said as part of the announcement. “According to Sony, 440,000 PlayStation 3 consoles were sold in the United States during the week of November 29, a record for the product and nearly double from a year earlier."
