Quietly demoed at IFA 2018 last month, JLab Audio has officially pulled the cover off of their new JBuds Air True Wireless Earbud. Though not the company’s first foray into the true wireless space, this marks JLab’s first attempt at a “traditional” true wireless earbud, though the $50 price tag puts these at a very real price advantage over (under?) the competition.
Whereas nearly every other option on the market in the true wirelss earbud space is going to set the consumer back at least $100, the JLab JBuds manage to slash that starting price in half, while still promising up to 14 hours of playtime and the company’s custom EQ3 Sound.
"The JBuds Air are a game changer,” JLab Audio CEO Win Cramer said in a statement announcing the JBuds Air. “We've taken years of learning and built a product that makes true wireless accessible to everyone. Not only is the connection rock solid, the fit super comfortable, and an awesome look, but they sound simply stunning. The quality of sound that we deliver is unmatched. And we back it all up with a 2-year warranty. This is the best $50 you can spend for earbuds. We're thrilled to launch this product with Walmart."
With their Bluetooth 4.2 connection, the JBuds Air automatically turn on and pair with one another when removed from their charging case. The earbuds alone get between three and four hours per charge, and the charging case can provide an additional 10 hours of playback, according to JLab. The physical button on either earpiece provides basic playback functionality like play, pause, track change, and volume controls. And a built-in microphone allows the user to take calls and access Siri or Google Assistant. Additionally, the headphones are IP55 rating, which means they’ll be sweat and dust resistant.
What stood out most during our limited hands-on exposure to the JBuds Air at IFA was the lightweight nature of the earbuds. Both in one palm felt incredibly light, almost like a feather, though JLab promises that the 8mm driver (which we weren’t able to listen to at the time) still provide a signature JLab listening experience.
The JBuds Air true wireless earbuds are available now through the JLab website and at Walmart stores across the country.
