A new iPhone case introduced this week on Indiegogo by Tel Aviv-based company Just in Case does more than protect the user’s mobile device. The product—designed for the iPhone 5 and above—was built with a discreet internal recording device that lets the user record a phone call or in-person conversation without the need to connect to an app or an external recording source.
“JIC was born out of a clear and compelling need to provide a solution to the iPhone’s greatest weakness – recording conversations in real time,” John Davis, director of strategy at Just in Case, said in a statement. “Almost 1 billion iPhones are in circulation in the world and none of them are able to easily record conversations. We invested a full year of development in order to create the ultimate iPhone complement and now we are thrilled to finally provide users the opportunity to complete their iPhone.”
The case, which launched on the crowdfunding campaign website Indiegogo on Tuesday with a funding goal of $25,000 (as of 10 a.m. this morning it’s just over halfway there), will be available in red, blue, yellow, black, and white. Just in Case explained that the were designed for high-quality recording on both sides of the conversation while also maintaining a slim profile for the actual case. All audio files are stored on an included 2GB microSD card (the card size can be expanded by the user), which removes the need to have them stored on some third-part app and the limitations of pay-per-minute recording and playback services.
