KEF’s new Five-2 Series speakers are so named because they pack five channels into two enclosures. The models (dubbed Model 7 and Model 11 after the number of drivers they use) are designed to eliminate the need for five separate speakers in a home theater system. The speakers use Uni-Q point source drivers and NXT flat panel technology to produce the effect. The different drivers reproduce different signals -- left/center/right and left/ right surround -- within the enclosures. The system is designed to have a broad enough dispersion to deliver the effect to everyone in the room and not just the lucky viewer who happens to be sitting in the “sweet spot.” Floor stands and wall brackets are also available for the Model 7s.
Models 7 and 11 of the KEF Five-2 Series will be available in October for $1,000 and $1,800 respectively.
