Kenwood USA is close to introducing a first-of-its-kind product: an in-car mobile DTV receiver that works using the MPH in-band mobile DTV system, which was developed by Harris Corp. in conjunction with LG. The product will work with the ATSC digital television standard, which will still work following the 2009 DTV transition.
According to the company, the product will be demonstrated for the first time at International CES in Las Vegas next month. It is unknown when it will reach the consumer market.
“MPH(TM) field tests show that ATSC-compatible mobile DTV works well,” Dr. H.G. Lee, LG’s chief technology officer, said in the announcement. “The next phase is to measure consumer interest.”
