Kicker Plans Headphone, Amphitheater Summer Intros
Stillwater Designs, whose reputation was built through car audio bass reproduction, is augmenting its presence in the personal and home audio arenas with the introduction this summer of two additional 50-watt Amphitheater audio systems and its first Bluetooth headphone.
The Amphitheater iK5BTL ($299.95) Bluetooth audio system is the company's first to feature the Apple-device-compatible Lightning connector, said Steve Outhier, director of product planning. It also offers USB audio playback and comes with a remote. It succeeds a previous iteration that had Apple’s 30-pin connector. Also shipping this summer is the iK5BT2 ($249.95), a Bluetooth-only version.
Both models integrate with and are controllable with the company’s free KickStart app. Both feature digital signal processing and Stillwater Designs’ iconic square reflex subwoofer – a design the company patented for its 12-volt product lines and is using in a rear-facing configuration on the systems in a six-inch size. Also featured are five-inch mid-bass speakers and 3/4-inch silk dome tweeters.
