Laser Shortage Halves PS3 Launch
In what may be the only story this year to use the term “laser shortage,” Sony announced Wednesday that they would cut the initial launch of the PlayStation 3 by half, shipping 2 million instead of 4 million units worldwide due to a lack of blue lasers for the unit’s Blu-ray capabilities. The shortage is also affecting their European launch, which has been delayed until March. Launch dates for Japan and North America remain at November 11 and November 17, respectively.
