Lawmakers Urge DTV Coupon Program Extension
A group of Democratic members of Congress is making a push to get the DTV converter box coupon program extended beyond its current 90-day window, the AP reported Wednesday.
The group, led by Mass. Rep. Edward J. Markey, consists of 21 members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, and asked the National Telecommunications and Information Administration, which supervises the program, to give customers more time to cash in their coupons. An additional 90 days was the figure favored by the group.
“For most coupon users the 90-day window will likely suffice, but if consumers are unable to use the coupon in the allotted time, the NTIA should be flexible enough to allow those consumers to reapply for coupons. This move would be consistent with the law and helpful for consumers,” Markey said in a statement released by the group.
