LCD Shipments Jumped 70 Percent Last Quarter
Shipments of liquid crystal display (LCD) panels surged in the fourth quarter in 2007, jumping 70 percent over the same period the year before, as total shipments fell just below 400 million for the full year. That’s according to a report issued this week by the research firm DisplaySearch, which is part of the NPD Group.
The jump, in which 27.9 million units were moved, also represented an increase of 18 percent over the previous quarter. Total sales for the year reached $33.5 million, up from around $22 million in 2006. Average panel size also increased 10 percent.
In terms of market share for “large area” televisions, Samsung maintained its lead with 22.9 percent, followed by LG.Philips with 20.4 percent and AU Optronics with 19.3 percent.
