LCDs Had Best Quarter Ever, DisplaySearch Says
The LCD TV sector had its strongest quarter ever in the second quarter of 2007, with sales jumping 65 percent year-to-year, to a volume of 19.6 million. That’s according to the Quarterly PDP Module and TV Shipment and Forecast Report, issued by DisplaySearch, a division of NPD Group.
According to the report, LCD revenues jumped 39 percent from the same period in 2006, well ahead of analyst expectations. At the same time, plasma TV sales went in the opposite direction, with the ratio of LCD to plasma sales exceeding 2-1 for the first time ever among the 40”-or-higher category.
As for individual brands, LPL (Philips) took the top LCD spot on a unit basis, followed by AU Optronics and Samsung. In terms of revenues, Samsung took the top spot, followed by Philips and AUO.
