Social networking sites such as Facebook, Myspace and YouTube are great platforms from which to market new products and services. But the nature of those sites – and their appeal to a younger, tech savvy demographic - are rendering many of the new marketing techniques obsolete and dated at a much faster rate than more traditional media.

One of the latest trends we’ve seen is that online consumers, especially those in younger demographics, are becoming unresponsive to advertising on social networking sites. That’s partly because they feel overwhelmed by all of the ads and they feel the ads aren’t in sync with their wants and needs. Myspace especially seems to be overrun by pop-ups, flashing banner ads, and the infamous "Congratulations, you've just been selected to win a free iPod" teaser.
