Lenovo Dropping IBM Name
Lenovo Group, coming off strong quarterly results, plans to drop the IBM brand name sooner than originally planned, the Wall Street Journal reported.
The Chinese firm purchased IBM’s computer business in 2005, giving it the right to use the iconic brand name on its products -primarily the IBM ThinkPad- for five years. But now, the company plans to stop using the IBM name and logo, and to call the devices Lenovo ThinkPads.
IBM’s non-computer business continues to use the name, most notably in production of software.
