In Less Than a Year, Apple Watch has Captured Nearly Three Quarters of the Global Smartwatch Market Share
Apple launched its flagship smartwatch device back in April—really, closer to May to be honest—but it hasn’t taken long for the company to take control of the market. During Q3 2015, the Apple Watch captured 74 percent of the global smartwatch market share, according to new data from Strategy Analytics.
Overall, global smartwatch shipments grew 510 percent to hit a record of 6.1 million units shipped during the third quarter of 2015, Strategy Analytics report found. And the Apple Watch has been a major contributor towards the segments success.
"We estimate Apple Watch shipped 4.5 million units and captured a dominant 74 percent smartwatch market share worldwide in Q3 2015,” Neil Mawston, executive director of Strategy Analytics, said in a statement. “Apple Watch's retail presence is expanding fast and the device is now available in over 30 countries worldwide, including the United States, South Korea and China. However, Apple Watch is still not widely available at most mobile operators, and this is one area of weakness that Apple must improve to maintain its shipment growth in the future."
