"The edge I have over the competition," says Mody, "is that when the customer comes in, they get a 'wow' experience. Not clutter. Not a wall of TVs facing a wall of speakers.
"We're in the fashion business, basically," says Mody. He strives to tap into the "prestige and mystique" exuded by other tony establishments. "Neiman Marcus carries Clinique cosmetics. So do a lot of other stores. But customers would rather have the Neiman Marcus bag in their hands. It's because of the services, the products and the mystique that Neiman Marcus carries."
Mody says he wants Home Theater Store to be known similarly to customers as a "world class" business, and that it's already developed such a reputation in certain upscale Texas communities. He says some customers choose Home Theater Store, among other reasons, because "they'd rather have our vehicle, with our name on it, pulled into their driveway."
