As someone who uses public transportation to commute to the office every day, I enjoy drowning out the sounds of the subway with the music stored on my smartphone while browsing the Web or texting friends at the same time. I remember just six years ago when I had to carry my basic cell phone in one pocket and my MP3 player in the other pocket. I had two pockets full of electronics and had to worry about keeping two batteries charged each day.
Now, the smartphone is the digital Swiss Army knife owned by two-thirds (66 percent) of online U.S. adults, according to CEA’s latest study, Smartphones: Consumer Behavioral Trends. With more Americans than ever spending at least an hour using their smartphones, it is interesting to look at how owners are using them in many different locations and situations.
