Lexon Oblio Keeps Your Qi-Compatible Phone Germ Free
In case you weren’t already aware of this fact: putting our smartphones up against our faces when we take calls is actually more gross than if we were to hug a toilet seat. No joke. A recent University of Michigan study found that more than 17,000 bacterial gene copies on the phones of high school students. Needless to say, we really should be doing more to clean our phones as frequently as we should be cleaning our hands.
A forthcoming product from Lexon, displayed at IFA 2019, aims to do just that—while also providing a battery boost.
The Lexon Oblio is a vase-shaped gadget that blends into its surroundings on any given bookshelf. Behind the design is a product that supports Qi wireless charging and, more importantly, can kill nearly all of those gross germs crawling all over your smartphone.
Using a built-in UV based sanitation system, Oblio scorches away 99.9 percent of all common bacteria, according to Lexon. The entire process takes about 20 minutes, but starts automatically when Oblio detects the phone is properly placed on the charger.
As for the wireless charging, bringing a completely drained phone to a full charge will take some time—three hours, according to Lexon. But that means an overnight charge and sanitation cycle is more than sufficient for users.
When it becomes available later this year, Oblio will ship in three different colors—navy, gold, and white. It has a suggested retail price of 79.90 Euros ($88.95).
