LG Adds Premium Features to Mid-Range Q7 Phone
LG Electronics announced on Monday the launch of their new LG Q7 smartphone. The mid-range smartphone offers “premium features” that consumers would typically find in more expensive flagship devices, according to LG. The phone will first ship in key European markets in early June, followed by countries in the Americas and Asia.
LG launched the Q6 smartphone last year, and the model quickly “developed a fan base” as a result of the premium features packed into a lower-cost device than what consumers are used to seeing. That device offered a 5.5-inch FHD+ FullVision 18:9 display in a sleek, thin-bezeled body. The Q7 builds on that foundation and manages to pack in additional high-end features including a Portrait photography mode, QLens, Hi-Fi quality audio, DTS:X 3D Surround Sound, an IP68 rating, and an integrated fingerprint sensor of the back of the device.
“Consumers in the market for a balanced smartphone with the latest premium features will find the LG Q7 very hard to resist,” Ha Jeung-uk, senior vice president and business unit leader for LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company, said in a statement. “With selected features just only recently introduced in our 2018 LG G7ThinQ, the Q7 is a great combination of features, design, performance and price.”
The Q7 will come in three different models, the Q7+, the Q7, and the Q7 alpha, the latter of which is upgraded with 3GB of RAM and 32 GB ROM.
Additional upgrades include a 5MP front-facing camera that offers a 100-degree Super Wide Angle Lens to help capture more of the scene around you in selfie mode. The rear-facing camera (which comes in 13 or 16 MP depending on the model) offers Phase Detection Auto Focus, which LG explained is 23 percent faster than traditional autofocus.
QLens in the new Q7 smartphone is a new camera AI feature that, until now, was only available on LG’s premium smartphones. QLens leverages artificial intelligence technology for image recognition, allowing the user to execute searches through their camera. For example, someone could take a picture of an item with QLens and get information on where to buy the product online as well as recommendations for similar items. QLens can also can also perform an image search to see matching or similar images of food, clothing, celebrities, landmarks, buildings, and statues.
LG said that specific pricing and model availability will be announced locally.
