LG Brings Worry-Free Craft Brewing to the CES 2019 Show Floor
LG Electronics (LG) is introducing at CES 2019 its fully automated craft beer making system, LG HomeBrew. The device, which has won a CES Innovations Award, employs single-use capsules, an optimized fermentation algorithm and – topping the ease-of-use chart as a convenience – a self-cleaning feature.
With a set of single-use capsules which contain malt, yeast, hop oil and flavoring and the press of a button, LG HomeBrew automates the entire beer-brewing cycle, from fermentation, carbonation and aging to serving and cleaning. A free companion app for Android and iOS devices lets users check HomeBrew’s status during the process.
LG says that the system not only simplifies home brewing but also improves the finished product, due to an optimized fermentation algorithm that intelligently controls the fermenting process with precise temperature and pressure control for guaranteed brewing success. The capsule system also removes the cleaning-related frustrations associated with traditional home-brewing methods, automatically sanitizing the system using nothing more than hot water to ensure everything is hygienically clean for the next batch.
HomeBrew allows for the in-home production of more than a gallon of the brewer’s favorite beers. Five varieties of beers are available: hoppy American IPA, golden American Pale Ale, full-bodied English Stout, zesty Belgian-style Witbier and dry Czech Pilsner. The system is capable of producing up to 10 1/2 pints of premium-quality beer in approximately two weeks, depending on the beer type, says LG.
“LG HomeBrew is the culmination of years of home appliance and water purification technologies that we’ve developed over the decades,” said Dan Song, president of LG Electronics Home Appliance & Air Solutions Company, in a statement announcing the introduction. “Home-brewing has grown at an explosive pace, but there are still many beer lovers who haven’t taken the jump because of the barriers to entry, like complexity, and these are the consumers we think will be attracted to LG HomeBrew.”
