LG at CEDIA Expo Announces Ship Dates, Pricing for 4K OLED TVs
LG Electronics will begin shipping next month to select regional retailers one of its first two models of 4K OLED TVs: a 65-inch set ($9,999), to be followed into the market in November by the 77-inch version, priced at $24,999.
Both models boast what Tim Alessi, LG’s director of new product development, said were “benchmark” technologies in cabinets that are just 4mm deep. These include LG’s webOS smart TV platform and WRGB OLED technology, where each pixel is made up of four sub-pixels, equal roughly to 33 million sub-pixels for more lifelike color and image detail. They also offer compatibility with the latest HDMI standards, H.265 decoding, and Tru-4K Engine Pro 2K-to-4K upscaling technology, which uses a dual-chip, six-step process.
Also on display for the CEDIA crowd here were LG’s 105-inch UHD LED set (Nov. availability at $99,999.99) and its 98-inch UHD LED set (Nov.; $39,999.99). These sets use LG’s IPS panels and feature Harman Kardon technology in the form of a 7.2-channel 150-watt H/K-developed audio system.
